How Long After Teeth Are Pulled Do I Have to Wait for Dentures?
When we see a patient at Denton Smiles in Denton, TX, that needs to have some teeth pulled due to periodontal disease or a traumatic mouth injury, they always ask how long it will take to get dentures. That’s a great question, and Dr. Vo or Dr. Tran tell them it depends on many factors.
In fact, it could take up to several months to get permanent dentures, as various steps are involved to ensure they look, feel and perform like natural teeth. The good news is that there are temporary dentures that we can use until your final set is ready. Full and Partial Dentures
Full dentures are exactly what they claim to be – a full set of dentures, either upper or lower, to replace all or some missing teeth. Partial dentures are segments of teeth, or sometimes just one tooth, that take the place of one or a few missing teeth, usually using a framework that can be inserted into the mouth, and held in place by clips or brackets. The partial denture is somewhat similar to a dental bridge in construction.
The fleshy part of your dentures will be the area that is used to cover your gums, and your fake teeth will be on top of this to make it appear as if the dentures are actually “real” teeth. Some people find these rather odd to get used to, especially in younger years, but after a while of repeated use, you will soon find that your mouth and your lifestyle habits will adapt to meet these new additions to your mouth.
How to Care for Dentures
Ideally, you will want to care for these dentures in much the same way that you would care for your own teeth. They need to be cleaned twice daily and flossed to ensure food particles are removed from the crevices. Dentures are delicate and should never be placed in hot water to ensure that they don’t warp; they should always be cared for properly when they are not in your mouth.
Dentures are often a last resort for many people as teeth will often have to be removed in order to make a full imprint for dentures. There are other options available if you are only missing a few teeth, but for a series of problems, this is often the greatest, simplest resort to achieve your best smile.
